Why this site exists
If you own a well, you have probably seen water-quality advice that leads quickly to a product for sale. Search "well water smells like rotten eggs" and you will often find a filter recommendation before any testing or confirmation of the cause. That gets the order backwards. A softener or filter bought on a guess may not solve the problem you actually have.
We built this site around the step that often gets skipped: work out what is going on, test for it properly, read the result, and only then compare treatment. Every page here follows that order.
Who is behind it
A small editorial team writes and maintains the site. We are not doctors, engineers, laboratory staff, contractors, or public officials. Our job is to explain reliable guidance in plain English and point you to the people who hold the real expertise: state-certified drinking-water laboratories, local health and environmental agencies, and qualified well and plumbing professionals.
How we choose what to publish
- We start from what you actually see, smell, or notice at the tap, not from a product we want to sell.
- We ground health-related statements in public-health and scientific sources such as the EPA, CDC, USGS, and university extension programs, and we link those sources near the claims they support.
- We keep treatment guidance about comparing options and asking the right questions, not about naming a best product.
- We leave diagnosis to laboratories and professionals. Symptoms are clues, not verdicts.
